Learning & Development Specialist

South Central Community Family Service Centre (SCC) provides support to the lower-income and vulnerable families in our community. While giving support to families who seek help in financial, social or relationship issues, we encourage community self-help and cooperation. At SCC we believe:

We are looking for passionate individuals committed to the cause of enabling socially disadvantaged low-income families and communities realise their aspirations of getting out of the poverty cycle, through an asset-based community development and community-centric approach.

The Learning & Development Specialist would play an instrumental role in enabling an environment and culture of learning and development by working alongside children, developing rapport with families and communities as an enabler and facilitator for children to thrive and maximise their potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct strategic planning, development and execution of learning & development initiatives in the holistic areas of not limited to academic support, but developing socio-emotional learning, development and aspirations in collaboration with community, volunteers and stakeholders, in the context of service delivery within the FSC and neighbourhood setting (Community-setting)
  • Develop and implement curriculum for integrated education, development and learning support initiatives and programmes in-house or in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Organise, develop and conduct activities/workshops/trainings for children, parents/caregivers & volunteers in the areas of academic support, socio-emotional learning & development
  • Plan, develop and conduct profiling of children in understanding the strengths, interests and needs of children within SCC universe and co-develop goals with children and families, based on areas of strengths and for development
  • Coach children, caregivers and families (through an ongoing tripartite approach) in working towards identified learning & development goals, based on their strengths, interests and requirements, in collaboration with social work team
  • Recommend and execute interventions and/or referrals to relevant stakeholders based on identified goals
  • Review the progress in the 3 aspects identified periodically through report updates and recommendations.
  • Identify and map support networks and resources for children and parents/caregivers to address their needs and goals effectively
  • Form and cultivate strategic partnerships with relevant community partners and stakeholders in the ecosystem towards holistic support and development for children, based on identified areas of need and development
  • Collaborate with community work team to outreach to families and communities for Learning & Development initiatives
  • Work with SCC's Research, Evaluation & Development team to develop and track the key metrics for the programme effectiveness of the various educational programs

This role may entail onsite work on 1-2 weekday evenings or weekend mornings. We practise flexibility in working hours to ensure team members have the time off and rest that they are entitled to.

Requirements:

  • Passionate about the cause of transforming children's life outcomes holistically, with a strength-based and community-centric outlook and strong belief in child's and family's potential and strengths (asset-based)
  • Degree in a relevant discipline, related to education and/or child and youth development (e.g. NIE qualifications or those with psychology/sociology/social work degree) are highly preferred.
  • Astute knowledge of child-related and parent-related resources in the Education & Development landscape in Singapore is a plus.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with vulnerable children and families in the social or education sector.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills:able to build strong rapport with children, families, community and work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders
  • Experienced and competent in organising, developing and conducting activities/workshops/trainings for children, parents/caregivers & volunteers
  • Enjoy working with children including those from underprivileged families, their parents and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and respectfully engage and effectively enable families on making positive behavioural changes
  • Able to operate effectively and independently in a dynamic and fluid work environment and willingness to work in a neighbourhood context with a community-centric lensing and approach
  • Self-driven with a keen and astute eye for programme effectiveness
  • Strong project management skills: Detail-oriented, with strong planning and administrative skills and the ability to manage deadlines, and responsibilities.
