Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled Residential Risk Assessment Specialist to assess and evaluate the replacement cost of homes with building sums insured up to approximately 5 million $$. This is a 6-12 months contract position to start with a potential to extend futher based on indivisuals performance.


This role requires expertise in valuation methods, building costs, and risk assessment to ensure comprehensive coverage and effective risk mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will provide in-depth insights into potential exposures, security/fire protection, and catastrophe risks, offering recommendations to underwriters and insured parties to improve risk management.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Home Valuation & Risk Assessment:Assess the replacement cost of homes up to 5 Million using accepted valuation methods, ensuring alignment with current building costs.
    Identify potential exposures related to burglary, fire hazards, and general safety concerns, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Exposure to Catastrophic Perils:Evaluate the risk exposure to natural catastrophes such as bushfire, flood, and other relevant perils, ensuring appropriate coverage.
  • Underwriting Support & Recommendations:Provide detailed recommendations to underwriters regarding risk acceptability based on underwriting and appraisal guidelines.
    Assess and understand the coverage limitations of local contracts and the general attitude of homeowners in risk evaluation.
    Suggest modifications to reduce risks associated with burglary, fire hazards, and other general exposures.
  • Loss Prevention & Risk Mitigation:Promote and share strategies for preventing internal water damage as part of the company’s loss prevention initiative.
    Advise insured parties on actions to take to mitigate risks and enhance the overall security and safety of their properties.
  • Reporting & Documentation:Prepare concise yet comprehensive reports documenting the findings from risk assessments, ensuring clarity on risk analysis and loss prevention measures.
    Utilize existing reporting templates to ensure consistency and adherence to appraisal guidelines.
  • Insurance Coverage Recommendations:Identify opportunities for additional insurance coverages based on the insured’s personal possessions, lifestyle, and property risks.
    Work closely with underwriters and brokers to facilitate the pursuit of additional coverage when applicable.
  • Marketing & Client Engagement:Contribute to the marketing efforts by conducting informational and promotional sessions with brokers/producers, sharing key insights on risk management and coverage options.
  • Research & Continuous Improvement:Stay current on industry trends including changes in construction materials, security/fire protection techniques, and loss trends.
    Assist in reviewing and updating the construction cost matrix used for pricing and assessing replacement costs.
  • Other Responsibilities:Perform additional services or deliverables as required by the company, contributing to overall risk management objectives.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in risk management, construction, insurance, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of valuation methods, building cost assessments, and residential risk management.
  • Experience in evaluating risk exposures related to fire, burglary, natural disasters, and general hazards.
  • Ability to prepare detailed, clear, and concise risk assessment reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with underwriters, brokers, and insured parties.
  • Understanding of underwriting guidelines, insurance coverage, and risk acceptability.
  • Ability to stay updated on industry developments, security measures, and construction techniques.
  • Prior experience in risk assessments and insurance evaluation is highly desirable.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks within deadlines.
  • Occasional travel may be required for site assessments and client engagements.
