Roles & Responsibilities

Position Overview:

The incumbent is reponsible for the safe, reliable and profitable operations of vessels assigned, leading and engaging senior ship staff, working collaboratively with other departments and divisions to ensure optimal fleet operations while upholding and driving the values, brand, procedures and practices of Wallem Group and our valued Clients.


Responsibilities:

1. Ensure vessels are operated in a safe, efficient, reliable and cost-effective manner, in compliance with Class and Statutory and Wallem’s Safety Management System requirements.

2. Set goals and expectations, proactively putting in place performance outcomes, Wallem’s values and procedures for sea staff compliance.

3. Provide coaching and works to develop juniors, as well as Masters, Chief Engineers and officers with potential onboard

4. Support the vessel as Client/Owners point of contact for vessel operations ensuring the highest level of customer service and satisfaction are maintained whilst also protecting the Wallem brand and our employees from risk

5. Respond to commercial related inspection observations (SIRE, OCIMF, Q88, Rightships, Terminal).

6. Provide day to day technical and operational support and guidance to assigned vessels

7. Monitor vessel compliance with MESQAC requirements

8. Carry out regular vessel visits, including sailing visits, to confirm condition and compliance with company standards


Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years’ sailing experience as Chief Engineer in Container / Bulk Carrier/ Tankers with 2 years’ experience as Superintendent of Container / Bulk Carrier/Tankers,
  • or a post graduate Degree (MEng or MSc) or equivalent qualification in Naval Architecture / Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline with 4 years’ experience as Superintendent of Container / Bulk Carrier/ Tankers
  • Ability to demonstrate Safety and Compliance based approach to Marine Operations
  • Ability to provide effective delegation and guidance with good leadership skills
  • Effective communicator with good command of English
  • Be ready for and capable of frequent travel globally without restriction
