Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and bilingual Portfolio Manager to join uSMART Securities (Singapore) Pte Ltd, focusing on our client base across China and Southeast Asia. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and optimizing our portfolio of investments in these high-growth markets, providing strategic guidance, and building strong relationships with our portfolio companies and clients in the region. Fluency in both English and Chinese is required for effective communication with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Portfolio Management:

  • Oversee and manage a diverse portfolio of investments in China and Southeast Asia, ensuring strategic guidance and value creation for portfolio companies.
    • Collaborate with portfolio companies in these markets, providing operational, financial, and strategic support to accelerate growth.
    • Monitor portfolio company performance, analysing financials, KPIs, and market trends in the China and Southeast Asia regions.
    • Identify new opportunities for growth, ensuring the alignment of portfolio companies' objectives with market demands.

2. Client Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders in China and Southeast Asia, acting as the key point of contact for the region.
    • Provide regular performance updates and strategic recommendations to clients, ensuring clear communication in both English and Chinese.
    • Ensure client satisfaction and actively resolve any issues related to portfolio performance, investment strategy, or operational challenges.

3. Investment Strategy and Execution:

  • Participate in sourcing, due diligence, and execution of new investments, particularly in the China and Southeast Asia markets.
    • Develop tailored value creation plans for portfolio companies, focusing on growth strategies specific to these regions.
    • Assess and manage risks related to market volatility, regulatory changes, and other factors affecting investments in China and Southeast Asia.
    • Drive portfolio exits, including M&A, IPO, or other exit strategies, by identifying the right timing and market conditions.

4. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Track and report on the financial and operational performance of portfolio companies in the region, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to internal teams and clients.
  • Provide detailed quarterly and annual reviews of portfolio performance, highlighting growth areas and identifying opportunities for further value creation.

5. Market and Industry Research:

  • Stay up to date with market developments, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in China and Southeast Asia to inform investment decisions.
  • Conduct in-depth market analysis to identify trends and potential opportunities in the region.

6. Cross-Cultural Communication:

  • Serve as a bridge between the China and Southeast Asia market teams and other global offices, ensuring effective communication and understanding of cultural and market nuances.
  • Provide language support, including translation and interpretation, when necessary, to facilitate communication with portfolio companies and clients in China and Southeast Asia.

7. Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other portfolio managers, analysts, and associates in the firm to execute investment strategies and optimize portfolio performance.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, helping them develop their skills and grow professionally.

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Economics, or a related field (MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, or investment management, particularly within the China and Southeast Asia markets.
  • In-depth understanding of the venture capital ecosystem, financial modelling, valuation techniques, and portfolio management.
  • Strong track record of managing investments and driving value in high-growth markets, especially in China and Southeast Asia.
  • Solid knowledge of regulatory environments, market dynamics, and business practices in China and Southeast Asia.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage cross-cultural relationships and work effectively with teams from different backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in specific industries like Financial or Fintech within China or Southeast Asia.
  • Strong network and relationships within the venture capital, startup, and investment community in China and Southeast Asia.
  • Proficiency with financial tools, modelling software, and reporting tools (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
