Roles & Responsibilities

Purpose of Job

The successful candidate will contribute to enhancing the local aquaculture sector's resilience and growth by improving fish health management and raising survival rates of fish at farms through comprehensive strategies. These include strengthening the fish health management capabilities of the SFA's Marine Aquaculture Centre (MAC), drive research and development (R&D) projects in collaboration with partners and supporting the formulation of policies related to aquatic animal health.


Duties

• Assess and refine existing fish health management and biosecurity protocols at MAC including implementing effective fish health solutions in partnership with operational teams. This will cover various domains such as broodstock, hatchery, and nursery management.

• Develop and institute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conduct training sessions for SFA personnel on marine fish diseases, surveillance, and management, as well as on emerging research findings and technological advancements.

• Collaborate with external experts to acquire insights into the disease landscape and utilize scientific and veterinary epidemiology principles to evaluate and advise on suitable disease mitigation strategies for local farms.

• Lead and launch R&D projects with Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), Research Institutes, and farms to address prevalent disease challenges within the aquaculture industry and to devise strategies aimed at enhancing fish survival rates.

• Contribute to policies development and strategic planning in Singapore concerning aquaculture and aquatic animal health.


Requirements

• A degree in veterinary medicine, aquatic veterinary science, aquaculture, zoology, or

• Professional certification in the disciplines listed above or another relevant discipline.


Work Location

• Marine Aquaculture Centre (St John’s Island) and SFA headquarters at JEM Office Tower.
