Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Head Librarian will be responsible for leading the direction and day-to-day operations of the library. The role involves ensuring the effective management of library resources, services and events, fostering the promotion of French language and literature, and overseeing staff and volunteers. This is a key position within the organisation, offering the opportunity to shape the future of our library services while contributing to a dynamic cultural environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Develop and implement the library's goals, policies, and procedures in compliance with AF policies.

· Promote the French language and culture to the public through French reading resources and events.

· Oversee the daily operations of the library, ensuring efficient service delivery.

· Prioritise, plan, and execute major projects in collaboration with other departments, our partners, and the community.

· Organise library events, including conducting book clubs and storytelling sessions.

· Supervise, train, and manage the library staff, including volunteers and interns.

· Manage the library resources and operations software.

· Administer the operating budget and monitor expenses.

· Provide hands-on library services, including assistance to library users and ensuring the upkeep of the collection.

REQUIREMENTS

Degree (or equivalent), with 2 years of relevant working experience in an administrative or customer-facing role.

Excellent customer service skills with an ability to engage people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Strong skills in leadership, communication, planning, budgeting, project management.

Knowledge of French is essential (native or minimum B2 level), with a passion for French/Francophone literature and literary culture.

Knowledge of Library systems (SIGB) will be an added advantage.
