The School of Physical andMathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research andeducation activities in two divisions: Division of MathematicalSciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP).MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to theapplications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business,and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and appliedphysics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics,biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attractedtalented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join asscientific leaders and researchers.

Evaluatingthe errors associated with Machine Learning (ML) predictions is anactive area of research crucial for the safe and effectivedeployment of ML techniques. These errors have two components. Theepistemic error refers to the degree of similarity between theanalysed data and the ones the uses to train the machine. Theuncertainty error refers to the noise in the training and testdata.

The Pica Ciamarra groups is looking for ahighly motivated and qualified Research Fellow with the ambition ofproducing high quality research to develop physics-inspired modelfor error estimation in ML. The Research Fellow will be involved inresearch design, data analysis, model development, numericalsimulations, and report/paper writing, in strict collaborations ofpartners of the CNRS@Descartes.

The ResearchFellow is expected to perform state of the art numericalsimulations using computing resources from National SupercomputingCentre (NSCC) Singapore. The incumbent has freedom to design thenature and type of deep learningsimulations.

KeyResponsibilities:
  • Devisephysics-inspired ML approaches to estimate epistemic anduncertainty errors.
  • Construct synthetic datasetsuitable to the designed models.
  • Implementmodels for error estimation in classification and regressiontasks.
  • Interact with partners of theCNRS@Descartes project to foster the application of the developedmodels to use cases.
  • Validate models via largescale simulations on National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC)Singapore.


JobRequirements:
  • Ph.D inphysics or related disciplines
  • 2 years ofrelevant experience is preferred
  • Experience inMachine Learning and modeling
  • Knowledge ofPython and C++
  • Able to multitask and work in amultidisciplinary team, demonstrate initiative and workindependently with strong interpersonalskills.
  • Good publication record ininternational journals
