Centre for Lifelong Learning and IndividualisedCognition CLIC is a research collaboration between theUniversity of Cambridge and Nanyang Technological University (NTU)and hosted by the Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research andEducation in Singapore (CARES) that aims to developneuroscience-based interventions for lifelong flexible learning.Launched in October 2020 and funded by the National ResearchFoundation Singapore, CLIC brings together a multidisciplinary teamof psychologists, neuroscientists, linguists and educators whoconduct innovative research in the science oflearning.

The world of today is constantlyevolving to keep pace with advances in technology andglobalisation, requiring individuals to adapt and develop newskills to ensure resilience through a culture of lifelong flexiblelearning. Mental flexibility is required in order to adapt tochange, problem-solve creatively in new situations and make themost of opportunities including emerging career opportunities. Thecapacity for cognitive flexibility is thus central to the moderndigital age and our education system needs innovation to ensurecitizens are equipped to develop these future skills. For example,major global challenges, including climate change, renewableenergy, and food security, will require novel and creativeapproaches and solutions.

CLIC researchers aredeveloping a neuroscience-based model of flexible learning,including important social contextual factors, in order to informthe design of practical, real-life interventions for use in schoolsand the workplace. This will ensure that individuals are not onlyprepared for future career success, but also have a good quality oflife and wellbeing, thus supporting a flourishingsociety.

The CLIC program is seeking Onefull-time Research Fellow (with potential opportunities forreappointment). The Research Fellow will support researchactivities focusing on social and societal factors that influencecognitive flexibility and learning among adults and adolescents.Given the highly inter-disciplinary nature of the project, the RFmay also be exposed to opportunities for involvement in researchactivities related to human neuroimaging, language, infantcognition/learning and pedagogy.

• Lead andmanage research process

• Oversee participantrecruitment, including liaising with schoolpersonnel

• Conducting literaturereview

• Conductinginterviews

• Develop survey construction,evaluation, and administration

• Conductquantitative and qualitative processing andanalysis

• Conduct analysis of data andfindings

• Project and datamanagement

• Academic publication and reportpreparation

• Disseminating the outcomes ofresearch in peer-reviewed publications of internationalstanding

• Other research related tasks asassigned by the PrincipalInvestigator

Essentialrequirements:
  • PhD inpsychology or related field with a background in education,cognition, or emotion, neuroscience, socialscience.
  • Experience in conducting, collectingdata for and analysing surveys, psychological testing(computerised), behavioural testing and cognitiveexperiments
  • Expertise in both frequentist andBayesian statistics performing descriptive and multivariatestatistical analysis techniques such as SEM using SPSS and/or Rlanguage.
  • Excellent ICTskills
  • Expertise in managing large datasets andperforming the requisite pre-processing before dataanalysis
  • Excellent communication skills andother interpersonal skills
  • Excellentorganizational skills and able to work effectively withindeadlines
  • Contributes to in-depth analysisrelevant to the research study
  • Interest inresearch at the intersection of neuroscience, social science,education, andcognition.
