Roles & Responsibilities

Position Overview

The role involves teaching, assessment duties, and administrative responsibilities related to the field of English. The Senior Lecturer is expected to have expertise in the subject matter and possess strong leadership and communication skills to effectively guide and mentor students.


Principal Accountabilities
  • Deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and workshops in English literature, linguistics, writing, or related areas.
  • Design, update, and assess course content and learning materials.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students' research projects and dissertations.
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in the field of English studies.
  • Publish scholarly articles, books, or papers in reputable academic journals.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Provide academic guidance, mentoring, and career advice to students.
  • Support student progress through feedback, tutorials, and regular evaluations.
  • Assist in quality assurance and accreditation processes.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field
  • A certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is preferred
  • Teaching qualifications, e.g. Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA), Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) and Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE) will also be an added advantage
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in higher education
  • Proven ability to engage and inspire students through effective teaching methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in curriculum development and program design is desirable
Selection Criteria
  1. Proven experience in teaching at the tertiary level, with a strong track record of engaging and effective teaching practices.
  2. Ability to design and deliver courses in English studies.
  3. Experience with diverse teaching methods, including online and blended learning environments.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and external partners.
  5. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusive teaching practices.
