Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a Metallurgy Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for sample preparation for metallurgical evaluation and chemical testing. You will also assist with routine mechanical testing to support laboratory operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform cutting, metallurgical preparation, and assessment of metallographic specimens according to required specifications.
  • Prepare etchants and carry out etching of metallographic specimens.
  • Work closely with team members to ensure timely completion of sample preparation to meet customer lead time requirements.
  • Maintain metallurgical sample preparation equipment, ensuring all tools and machines are in proper working condition.
  • Keep the sample preparation area clean, safe, and organized at all times.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures in sample preparation and equipment maintenance.
  • Provide suggestions for process improvements, equipment maintenance, and general housekeeping.
  • Monitor inventory levels for consumables and tools, ensuring timely reordering.
  • Perform internal calibration of testing equipment.
  • Assist with sample storage and disposal.
  • Support the Mechanical Testing department in conducting routine tests according to international standards or customer requirements and generating test reports.
  • Assist Chemists with sample preparation for chemical analysis, including cutting, polishing, and sample digestion.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including proficiency and round robin testing, as well as internal, certification body, and customer audits.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Metallurgy, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Candidates with NITEC, Higher NITEC in Aerospace Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or ITE Technical Diploma with at least 5 years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to multi-task effectively.
