The Mathematics and Mathematics Education (MME)Department at the NIE is part of the Singaporemathematics education ecology that has produced a world-classsystem for students of varied abilities. Our vision is to be aworld-class symbiosis of mathematics educators and mathematicians.A mathematician educator is a teacher of mathematics who baseshis/her pedagogy on a strong foundation of mathematicsdisciplinarity, learning theories and mathematics educationresearch findings. Our mission is to nurture mathematicianeducators for Singapore and the world through research andexemplary teaching. MME staff engage in research in mathematicseducation and mathematics to meet the needs of teachers within achanging environment, upholding the mathematical rigour essentialto a productive STEM education. We constantly seek innovative andresearch-informed ways of delivering mathematics content andpedagogy courses in an effort to develop best practices as wecollaborate with educators in the schools.

Requirements

Thesuccessful candidate should satisfy the followingcriteria:
  • A PhD inMathematics/Statistics from a reputableuniversity.
  • A strong record of research andpublications in reputable peer-reviewed internationaljournals.
  • A strong record in universityteaching in mathematics courses for undergraduate and postgraduatestudents.
  • (Preferably) Has past experienceteaching in schools for K-12levels.


Responsibilities

Thesuccessful candidate will be expectedto:
  • contribute to teaching and coursedevelopment at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels formathematics.
  • develop a research programme andsecure competitive research grants.
  • supervisegraduate and undergraduate students in mathematics/statisticsresearch and school practicum
  • teachmathematics/statistics courses from pre-service to postgraduatelevel
  • teach advanced mathematics/statisticscontent courses for undergraduate pre-serviceteachers
  • (For Associate Professor) mentoring ofyoung faculty members and serve in the NIE / NTU committees, andoffer professional services to schools, the Ministry of Educationand other public education-related organizations on a requestbasis.
