Position Overview
Join the dynamic Faculty of Performing Arts at Capital College of the Arts, Management and Technology (CCAMT), contributing to the BA (Music) program in partnership with the University of Sunderland. We are seeking passionate and experienced Adjunct Lecturers to teach specialized music modules. Applicants should indicate which modules they are able to teachand have the expertise to deliver effectively.
The School of Music is seeking qualified Adjunct Lecturers to teach one or more of the following modules/subject areas in our Bachelor of Arts (Music) program with the University of Sunderland:
1. Meaning In MusicOverview: This module focuses on the critical understanding of how meaning in music is manifested, constructed, apprehended, and interpreted. Students analyze musical artifacts, performances, and explore music's capacity to represent ideological, social, and cultural concepts.
Key Qualifications:
· Expertise in musicology and critical analysis
· Strong background in popular music studies
· Knowledge of music's relationship with ideology, identity, gender, sexuality, and ethnicity
· Experience in guiding student presentations and essay writing
2. Music, Image, Text
Overview: This module explores how musical meaning is constructed across multimedia contexts. Students author new musical material guided by critical perspectives and reflect on processes of musical authorship in audio-visual environments.
Key Qualifications:
· Experience in multimedia music creation and analysis
· Background in composing for visual media
· Knowledge of audio-visual theory and practice
· Skills in guiding students through practical creative projects
3. Creative Sound Practice
Overview: This module develops understanding of techniques, genres, and interpretive perspectives in creative sound practice. Students create audio works across various sub-disciplines using sound tools and technologies.
Key Qualifications:
· Expertise in technology-based music composition, sound art, or sound design
· Experience with creative audio production tools and workflows
· Knowledge of contemporary sound practice and key practitioners
· Ability to guide students in both technical and theoretical aspects of sound creation
4. Creative Enterprise Project
Overview: This module provides a critical perspective on arts practice in creative industries. Students develop project planning skills, implement small-scale projects, and create professional portfolios.
Key Qualifications:
· Industry experience in music or related creative fields
· Project management skills in creative contexts
· Knowledge of current music industry trends and practices
· Experience in guiding students through professional development
Role Overview and Responsibilities:
- Teaching Excellence & Innovation
o Plan and deliver high-quality music instruction in assigned modules
o Develop and update course materials, including Module Guides and Lesson Plans
o Implement innovative teaching strategies and integrate technology in learning experiences
o Adapt teaching approaches based on student needs and feedback
- Curriculum & Assessment
o Contribute to curriculum design and updates in area of expertise
o Provide input on curriculum as requested
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
o Administer fair and comprehensive assessments
o Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work
o Contribute to assessment processes as directed
- Student Engagement & Support
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Provide academic guidance and career mentorship.
o Facilitate student learning in music theory, performance, and professional development
- Encourage students to explore their creative potential and industry pathways.

- Stay updated on trends in music education and performance.
5. Administrative Duties:
o Maintain accurate attendance records and submit regular reports
o Complete necessary administrative tasks related to assigned courses
6. Professional Development and Artistic Engagement:
o Engage in ongoing professional development activities
o Maintain active involvement in performance or composition
o Stay updated with field developments and integrate new knowledge into teaching

Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in higher education.
- Expertise in one or more of the specified modules.
- Demonstrated excellence in one of the modules/subject areas above
- Industry experience in music performance, production, or research.

Ideal Candidates Will Have
- Experience with international education and interdisciplinary projects.
- Knowledge of education frameworks (e.g., UbD, contemporary pedagogy).
- Strong industry networks in the music or creative industries.
- Technology proficiency in music software and digital audio workstations (DAWs).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Teaching 2-6 hours per week, depending on module requirements.
- Minimal administrative duties beyond assigned courses.
- Class preparation and grading (1-2 hours per teaching hour).
- Standing for extended periods during lectures and demonstrations.
- Potential exposure to high sound levels in practice rooms and performances.
- Occasional moving of musical equipment for teaching purposes.
- CCAMT ensures a safe work environment and provides accommodations where needed.
