The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at NTU Singaporeconducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions,tsunami, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towardsafer and more sustainable societies.

The EarthObservatory of Singapore (EOS) invites applications for a ResearchAssistant (RA) position to work on topics related to tropicalcyclone and sea-level change science as part of a wider projectrelated to quantifying insurance risk for the Global Asia InsurancePartnership. The successful applicant will assist in developing andrunning tropical cyclone and sea-level projection statisticalmodels and interpretation of the results on a range of temporal(historical to future) and spatial (global to regional and local)scales. They will work collectively within a multi-cultural team ofinternational scientists at EOS and colleagues at NTU helping toproduce scientific output for reports, publications, andpresentations.

Key responsibilities andrequirements for the position of RA are outlined below andapplicants should demonstrate they fulfil these in a comprehensivecurriculum vitae and cover letter. The project has extensive budgetto support the successful candidate for one year with thepossibility of extension based on performance and salary will becommensurate with level ofexperience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Run latest iteration oftropical cyclone and sea-level projection models over a range oftemporal and spatial scales.
  • Collate datasetoutputs and discuss/present results withcolleagues.
  • Help in the writing of scientificreports and publications that present outputs from the modelresults.
  • Help in developing professionallooking presentations for a range of scientific and non-scientificaudiences.
  • Ensure projects are completed to anagreedschedule.


JobRequirements:
  • Bachelor'sdegree in geoscience, mathematics or statistics, civil or computerengineering, or similar relateddiscipline.
  • Entry level candidates are welcometo apply.
  • Experience working with climate modeland sea-level datasets and/or willingness tolearn.
  • Proficient in coding and runningstatistical models using relevant software (e.g., R, MatLab, Pythonetc.).
  • Skilled in Microsoft Officeapplications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, andPowerPoint.
  • Excellent English and communicationskills, both written and oral, which are essential for reportwriting.
  • Coding skills anadvantage.
