Electrical Engineering Lead / Manager – Offshore Substation


Job description

Your responsibilities as Electrical Engineering Lead / Manager

Ramboll is part of an EPC project, where we are working as engineering contractor for the EPC contractor located in Singapore. The Electrical Engineering Lead / Manager will act as a representative for the engineering contractor during execution at their fabrication yard in the north of Singapore, during the fabrication of an offshore substation topside.


In your role as Electrical Engineering Lead / Manager, your focus will be to ensure that the installation and commissioning of the LV & MV Electrical systems and electrical control systems portion of the mechanical systems adheres to the technical requirements and the design already developed by the engineering contractor. As such, it will be your responsibility to follow up on progress, site queries non-conformance, SAT and commissioning activities and facilitate minor adjustment as needed and daily technical clarifications. In doing so, you shall collaborate closely with representatives from the EPC contractor, the engineering contractor (your back office), Suppliers and other disciplines and representatives from the client as required.

  • Relocate to the fabrication yard and provide reliable information to the project manager regarding significant technical issues, particularly risks.
  • Shall be integrated into the EPC engineering team.
  • Collaborate closely with the fabrication yard representatives, the engineering design office, client’s home office and other discipline representatives at the fabrication yard.
  • Where required, liaise and coordinate Electrical tasks with Suppliers, EPC Contractor and other disciplines.
  • Trouble shooting / solution finding during fabrication.
  • Propose a solution, including supporting documentation, to any design issues, flaws, or gaps in the contract requirements. These shall be agreed upon with Company before implementation.
  • Coordinate electrical engineering tasks as needed during execution.
  • Review costs for change orders, and progress claims when required.
  • Follow up on progress and evaluate / oversee quality from the EPC contractor.
  • Interact with clients and stakeholders on technical solutions to ensure the best solution and in the client’s best interest.

You and your competencies

You must have a result-oriented, proactive and systematic approach to your work. You enjoy working both independently and together with co-workers, from both the engineering team and the EPC team thus experience in both design and installation/commissioning is preferred. You will engage with multiple stakeholders during the execution, thus teamwork is essential to achieve results.

Your competencies:

  • Have a diploma or master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar.
  • Have extensive experience in electrical offshore engineering – preferably with offshore substation design and installation/commissioning – with a minimum of 10 years of experience combined with managing of complex engineering tasks.
  • Comprehensive understanding of offshore OSS design standards and codes is preferred (e.g., DNV-ST-0145)
  • Have experience with typical OSS interfaces from design phase to procurement, vendors, shop preparations, materials, installation, layout, safety, cable routing, equipment tagging, numbering & marking, testing, and quality.
  • Be familiar with standard OSS component vendors.
  • Be familiar with the discipline interfaces and integration to other disciplines and systems.
  • Speak and write English fluently as English is the main business language in Ramboll
  • Have excellent communication skills, enabling you to convey complex technical information.

The current position is working as the engineering contractor representative at a fabrication yard. A contract period of 1 year is currently foreseen with an estimated start on site from late Q2 early Q3 2024.
