Roles & Responsibilities

Summary

A Piping Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, planning, and execution of piping systems in industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects. The role involves coordinating between engineering teams, contractors, and clients to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Coordination

  • Develop and manage piping project schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Collaborate with design, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless execution.
  • Ensure compliance with client requirements, industry codes, and safety regulations.

2. Piping Design & Engineering

  • Oversee piping layouts, isometric drawings, and P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams).
  • Perform pipe sizing, stress analysis, and material selection based on project needs.
  • Ensure piping design follows ASME, ANSI, API, and local regulations.
  • Work with AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, or other design software.

3. Procurement & Material Management

  • Assist in material selection, procurement, and vendor coordination.
  • Review technical specifications for pipes, fittings, valves, and insulation materials.
  • Ensure materials are delivered on time and meet project quality standards.

4. Site Supervision & Execution

  • Oversee piping fabrication, installation, and welding activities on-site.
  • Coordinate with construction teams, inspectors, and contractors to ensure work progress.
  • Conduct site inspections and quality checks to ensure adherence to project specifications.
  • Troubleshoot any technical or installation issues during execution.

5. Testing, Commissioning & Handover

  • Ensure piping systems undergo hydrostatic, pneumatic, and integrity testing.
  • Support system commissioning and startup activities.
  • Prepare and review as-built documentation, test reports, and handover records.

6. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all piping activities adhere to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and method statements for piping work.
  • Address and resolve safety concerns and non-conformities.

7. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain project reports, progress updates, and change management records.
  • Prepare technical documentation, RFIs (Requests for Information), and client reports.
  • Assist in tender preparation and proposal development when required.

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering, Certified Piping Engineer (CPE) or other related equivalent certification.
  • 5 years+ of experience in piping engineering, design, or project execution.
  • Experience in industrial, oil & gas, power plants, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Preferred candidates with a background in Data Centres, Oil & Gas, Power Plants, or Industrial Facilities.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, Caesar II (pipe stress analysis), and Navisworks.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, pipe stress, and thermal expansion analysis.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3, API, ANSI, NFPA, and other industry standards.
  • Experience with welding processes, material selection, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
