Job Description

The Head of Treasury is responsible for overseeing and managing the company's treasury operations, FX trade processes, and financial risk management. This role includes ensuring operational excellence in cash flow, liquidity, and compliance while optimizing FX trade activities and banking relationships. Additionally, the role requires a strong Finance leader to oversee payment settlements for existing C2C and B2B/FAST partners, lead treasury activities including funding and pre-funding, and manage various FX booking activities.


Responsibilities

FX
  • Liaise with bank partners, third-party providers, and the product team to manage pricing, execution details of FX rates, trade booking, and decisions on currencies to trade or hedge based on business volumes and requirements (C2B vs. B2B).
  • Manage daily FX trade operations, including setting daily FX rates and optimizing partner feeder FX rates.
  • Provide in-depth analysis of local and global FX markets to minimize exposure to fluctuations and manage FX risk efficiently.
  • Recommend strategies for using live rates, hourly rates, or day rates based on business needs (e.g., C2B uses day-rates, B2B uses live-rates).
  • Book trades and ensure execution at optimal rates (spot rates when possible) to meet business requirements.
  • Manage FX positions to minimize overnight risk and maintain efficient balances.
Treasury
  • Oversee day-to-day payment settlement operations, including cash disbursements, pooling, collections, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Draw up monthly and daily reports on Liquid’s regional liquidity position, providing management with timely insights for decision-making.
  • Monitor settlement timeframes, including currency cut-off times, across banking partners and service providers to ensure timely payouts.
  • Ensure sufficient funds in multi-currency bank accounts, including Liquid’s accounts, Nostro/Vostro accounts, and trading accounts, to avoid overdrafts.
  • Regularly review the treasury control framework to identify and reduce risks while optimizing processes.
  • Recommend and implement technology and automation tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes.
Settlement
  • Evaluate currency cut-off times across bank partners and third-party providers to determine settlement timelines for each currency.
  • Ensure timely settlement payouts (within 45 minutes to 1 hour) based on cut-off times of banks or service providers.
  • Manage the booking of trades for each currency to ensure rates are locked optimally (spot rates if possible).
  • Maintain oversight of settlement flows, ensuring operational excellence in liquidity management and avoiding overdraft situations.
Other Tasks
  • Prepare Assignment Confirmations, Product Specification Documents, and Product Implementation Documents for new projects that enhance client service offerings or improve internal team efficiencies.
  • Participate in the design, optimization, and management of treasury-related processes to align with company policies, budgets, and regional requirements.
  • Collaborate with the product and finance teams to analyze market developments and trends, enabling optimal assessments of client transactions and positions.
  • Manage banking relationships, including negotiating favorable terms for FX rates, settlement windows, and prefunding requirements, and tracking banking fees to ensure cost-efficiency.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience with equities/securities, foreign exchange or fixed income. A background of work in Finance teams preferably from a Tech, start up or corporate environment
  • Finance qualifications (CMFAS 1B, 5, 6, 6A), undergraduate degree and relevant level of experience and skills
  • Experience in leading or supporting a range of Treasury tasks, implementing processes and dealing with all levels of stakeholders
  • Strong technical knowledge, influencing skills, communication and organisation skills.
