[What the role is]

Carbon Mitigation Division (CMD) administers regulations and programmes to mitigate greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions from industrial facilities, households and the public sector in order to contribute to Singapore’s international obligations to address climate change.

For this role, you will join NEA as part of a team that will be looking at developing regulatory approaches / policies related to the introduction of new requirements under the Carbon Pricing Act (CPA) and Regulations for the proper governance of new mitigation measures, including transboundary carbon capture and storage (CCS), by companies regulated under the CPA as a measure to mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions. Your work will be technical in nature and requires extensive knowledge building of international guidelines and best practices. Travelling for international /regional meetings to discuss CCS-related matters with counterpart regulators will also be required.

[What you will be working on]

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Developing strong international networks with regulators in countries that are leading in CCS regulation and development.

  • Building extensive knowledge of international guidelines and best practices related to CCS

  • Participating in inter-agency government-to-government negotiations on the proper accounting of carbon captured in overseas CCS storage sites

  • Building extensive knowledge of new / emerging mitigation measures such as direct air capture and ocean carbon dioxide removal

  • Participating in relevant international fora to advance international acceptance of new / emerging mitigation measures and approaches for the accurate carbon accounting for these measures

[What we are looking for]

  • Degree in engineering discipline. 2-3 years of working experience in chemical processes would be an advantage

  • Keen interest in work that is technical in nature with good analytical skills to identify anomalies and discrepancies in data and trends

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

  • Mature, independent and resourceful

  • Good team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Meticulous with an eye for detail

  • Organised with ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders at the same time.
