The Early Intervention for Children (EIC) Services aims to help children develop essential skills in various areas such as motor, communication, social interaction, and cognitive abilities. The THK EIC Centre offers specialized classes conducted in small groups, integrating early childhood special education, social work, and therapy support services to enhance children's adaptive skills and readiness for school.

Reporting Structure:

• Reports to: Director of Programme / Divisional Director
• Supervised by: Senior Music Therapist / Director of Programme / Divisional Director
• Collaborates with: Professional colleagues, staff, donors, clients, and families

Role Overview:

Music Therapists utilize music creatively to assist children and families with their social, emotional, or physical challenges. They engage with individuals of various ages and backgrounds in diverse environments, aiming to establish a connection through shared musical experiences to achieve therapeutic objectives based on the client's needs and conditions.

Music Therapists address a wide range of issues including eating disorders, anxiety, behavioral and emotional struggles, addictions, and communication disorders. They also work with individuals seeking self-awareness and improved interpersonal relationships.

Central to music therapy is the therapeutic relationship established through music-making between the therapist and client. The focus is not on teaching music skills but on using music as a means of communication and expression, both in group settings and individual sessions.

• Conducting music therapy sessions
• Assessing client needs
• Planning, evaluating, and adjusting therapy sessions for effectiveness
• Active engagement in sessions through music activities
• Encouraging client participation and expression through music
• Exploring sound and musical language with clients
• Improvising music responses to enhance the therapeutic relationship
• Supporting creative development and behavioral changes
• Facilitating self-awareness and personal growth
• Observing and documenting client behaviors
• Collaborating with the team to support client needs
• Reporting progress to relevant parties
• Maintaining music instruments and therapy equipment

Music Therapists in clinical settings often engage extensively with other professionals involved in client care and development.

Qualifications:

• Master of Arts in Music Therapy from an accredited institution
• Registration with relevant Professional Body or Music Therapy Association

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a transdisciplinary team
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
• Proficiency in guitar or keyboard, along with vocal skills
