The Role: Power and Renewables Senior Principal Analyst – Japanese and Korean Market

The Location: Tokyo, Japan; Singapore; Seoul, South Korea

The Team: Commodity Insights Analytics is looking for a senior principal analyst to focus on power and renewables research of the Japanese and South Korean markets for our subscription services, delivered under our market-leading product line. This role will involve developing forward-looking market analysis and delivering insights to clients through written reports and presentations.

The Impact: Commodity Insights is a global team responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and forecasting global energy commodities markets and prices. This exciting role will be pivotal in writing forward-looking market commentary and developing analytical tools, research, and models. Our analysis serves a wide range of customers across the energy industry.

What's in it for you: This is a role with significant potential for development. You will be a key member of the Commodity Insights Analytics' power and renewables team, assisting in the synthesis of an integrated, cross-commodity, global analysis offering. In addition, there will be opportunity to take part in customer-facing activities.

Responsibilities:

• Cover the research of Japanese power and renewable markets and regular research deliverables.
• Cover the research of South Korean power and renewable markets and regular research deliverables.
• Deliver succinct, high-quality, and accurate charts, presentations, and reports that help core readership make better-informed market participation decisions
• Spot and identify emerging trends early and, where possible, anticipate market movements by developing a solid understanding of power market modelling and forecasting
• Constantly update knowledge of evolving markets, including regulatory developments, energy transition roadmap, global commodity prices, renewable tenders/auctions, key players, CPPA deals, REC and green energy procurements that impact the power sector
• Engage with clients, market experts, and prospects (limited travel will be required)
• Support internal teams in integrating market insights into cross-region or cross-commodity analysis.

What We're Looking For:

• Eight to ten years of experience in power industry
• Verbal and written fluency in English, Japanese and Korean. Able to track, read and analyse local policies and market trends published in Japanese and Korean.
• Knowledge of Japanese power and renewables markets. Experience in power trading, power market planning, market design, power price forecast, or renewable project development is a plus.
• A strong desire to establish oneself as a thought leader and ability to establish a wide network in the power and renewables sector
• Strong Excel skills are required. Experience in power market modelling, project financial modelling, or commodity supply/demand/price modelling is a plus.
• Ability to recognize trends and develop logical conclusions
• Excellent communication, concise written style, and strong presentation skills to provide insightful analysis in compelling and straightforward content
• Motivation to seek out new assignments and act on opportunities
• Comfortable with high levels of individual responsibility and accountability
• Demonstrates personal integrity and an openness to continually learn and develop
