Acoerela Pte. Ltd. is in need of a Research Officer

Eligibility

  • Candidate must hold at least an Honours degree or its equivalent in biology-related fields
  • Candidate must be a Singapore citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident

Preferred requirements

  • Independent and motivated individual with a strong interest in scientific research
  • Ability to efficiently organize and complete tasks on time
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Good Laboratory Practices
  • Practical experience and/or knowledge of
    • Biological chemistry, cell biology, or biochemistry
    • Characterization techniques such as absorbance/fluorescence measurements, dynamic light scattering, flow cytometry, or fluorescent microscopy
    • Quality Control procedures
    • Cell culture and aseptic techniques
    • Experience in working with nanoparticles is highly desirable
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Coverage

  • The position is for one year initially with the possibility of renewal
  • Monthly salary with CPF contribution, annual bonus, performance bonus, and other benefits, if eligible
  • An annual stipend/salary increase is contingent on good performance

Bond and duties

  • No bonding requirement associated with the sponsorship
  • Responsible for research tasks, routine QC/QA, and any other administrative duties assigned by the supervisor

Research overview

Fluorescent labels play a crucial role in various life science research areas, offering high sensitivity for detection and being non-destructive to samples. The emergence of Conjugated Oligoelectrolytes (COEs) as a novel class of fluorescent molecules has revolutionized cell and specimen labeling for non-invasive fluorescence imaging.

COEs feature a linear hydrophobic conjugated backbone with polar ionic pendants at both ends. Initially designed as two-photo absorption chromophores by Prof. Bazan's group, COEs were later discovered to have significant biological applications. These molecules intercalate into membranes, enhancing fluorescence emission. Through molecular core adjustments, COEs with varying emission wavelengths can be tailored, providing a wide array of colors for labeling purposes.

About the Company and the role

Acoerela Pte. Ltd., a spin-off from NUS, focuses on commercializing COEs as dyes in life sciences. This role involves assessing the labeling efficiency of different COE dyes across various biological samples like mammalian cells, bacteria with diverse membrane structures, and extracellular vesicles. The characterization and utilization of these COE-labeled samples will be analyzed using techniques like confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and in vivo fluorescent imaging. Additionally, the role includes developing products for standard use in fluorescence applications.
