In this role, you will manage all aspects of the underwriting operations for the Fine Art & Specie team across the Asia region. Leading a team of active underwriters based in Singapore, Hong Kong and Greater China, the role will lead the business development activities for our customers and brokers in this class of business and is a core component of the Specialty business within AXA XL.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

Managing a team of underwriting professionals based in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Greater China.

Setting the overall strategy for the team focused on driving new business opportunities and servicing a renewal portfolio for a broad range of customers and broker partners.

General business development activities and ongoing relationship management with customers (e.g. collectors, museums, galleries, jewellers, logistics providers, exhibitors etc) and broker partners across the Asia region.

Provide technical underwriting guidance and support to the FAS Asia team, including appropriate referral authority/signoffs for new or renewal business.

Full responsibility for the Asia FAS P&L and strategic direction of the business, including regular communication and coordination with all key stakeholders including the Head of Specialty - Asia, Global Chief Underwriting Officer (FAS) and country leaders in the Asia region.

Leading a team of underwriters across all areas including business development and marketing, transaction origination and underwriting, risk analysis, legal wording support and operational compliance.

Management and development of FAS Asia underwriting staff in terms of career progression, skill development and other related human resource matters.

Oversight and responsibility for operational excellence within the team, including policy wording and endorsement reviews, financial reports, loss runs, transaction risk analysis, operations support, credit control and support for active claims being handled by the claims team.

This role will require regular travel for business development purposes across the Asia region, and infrequent travel to Europe.

This role will report to the Head of Specialty, Asia based in Singapore

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Experienced team leader with at least 15 years of relevant experience in the insurance sector (or other related/relevant sector).

Strong understanding of, and appreciation for, the art and specie markets and a good working knowledge of the industry, its practices and its participants.

Proven ability to build excellent interpersonal relationships with customers, brokers and other market participants within a diverse geographic region and across various business cultures with a view to developing long term profitable business partnerships.

Effective planning and sales leadership skills, as well as an ability to coordinate business development activities for the team, integrating the use of various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth.

Ability to respond to changing market conditions and have strong initiative to capture business opportunities as they arise, and to construct innovative solutions for customers.

Fundamental working knowledge of all relevant systems such as Microsoft Office and other business platforms used in financial institutions.

Excellent communication skills and an ability to clearly communicate business strategy, financial outcomes and plans as well as human resource issues to key stakeholders.

Strong collaboration, teamwork and leadership qualities that promote empowerment amongst the team and other colleagues, and which align with the AXA XL core values and culture.
