The selected candidate for this role will integrate into the Analytical Development team in Development Services at Lonza Singapore. The focus will be on either 1) test method validation, development, and life cycle management, or 2) Process Analytics supporting process development and characterization studies. In Development Services, we shoulder the responsibility of crafting and detailing manufacturing processes utilized for producing innovative therapeutic recombinant proteins for Lonza's diverse clientele worldwide. The objective of this position is to spearhead and conduct studies concerning the development and validation of purity, impurity, identity, or charged isoform analytical techniques. This entails offering technical proficiency to troubleshoot operations on both laboratory and manufacturing scales at a superior standard aligning with ICH guidelines, GMP standards, and core business values. Moreover, providing swift analytical assistance for cell line selection, upstream and downstream process development, and process characterization studies leveraging routine test methods alongside automated high throughput assay platforms.

The role will be situated in Science Park II.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Author, review, and conduct technical assessment of study protocols and reports, ensuring the delivery of top-tier and GMP compliant data.
  • Lead and oversee study programs at a senior level encompassing the execution of associated laboratory tasks.
  • Projects mandate the execution of analytical method validation or development tasks for antibodies and other therapeutic recombinant proteins.
  • Test methodologies comprise techniques like capillary electrophoresis, HPLC, spectrophotometry, iciEF, qPCR, ELISAs, and more.
  • Manage test method life cycles, analytical apparatus, and correlated technologies/systems.
  • Contribute to process validation/characterization efforts by conducting supporting laboratory scale studies.
  • Participate in customer projects by deriving and interpreting scientific insights from experimental work.
  • Conduct technical review of data generated by peers, highlighting any anomalies and steering appropriate investigations.
  • Deliver high-quality communication to ensure exceptional customer interactions (written reports, teleconferences, and face-to-face meetings).
  • Mentor, train, and guide junior team members aiding in their growth, facilitating knowledge transfer and hands-on technical coaching.
  • Acting as a method SME and/or platform owner, represent Lonza in discussions with customers regarding specific study outcomes supporting project teams and assisting during customer and regulatory audits when necessary.
  • Collaborate within a local and global project team, coordinate multiple projects, and ensure punctual delivery of project phases. Overseeing small project teams is also part of the role.
  • Lead investigations concerning atypical/out-of-specification cases within the laboratory.
  • Foster cross-departmental communication within Singapore (e.g., QC/QA) and across the extensive Lonza network worldwide.
  • Manage assay transfers across labs and sites as needed.
  • Responsible for quality records (Deviations, CAPAs, change controls, tasks, effectiveness checks).
  • Experience operating within a formal Quality Management System (such as cGMP).

Education and Experience

  • Degree/PhD in a relevant scientific field or Equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience or PhD with 4 years of postdoctoral experience
  • Prior practical laboratory exposure to analytical testing for antibodies or proteins is essential, although training will be provided
  • Comprehension of the theory and application of protein production and purification
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Outstanding communication prowess (verbal and written)
  • Exceptional team player
  • Sound understanding and application of cGMP principles
