A Senior Research Engineer is being sought for Prof Peter Török's research group at Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE).
The Group is a world leader in designing and prototyping state-of-the-art precision optical and optomechanical systems and investigating novel concepts in optical imaging.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implementation of electronic control of custom optical systems developed and prototyped by the group. This includes PCB design, FPGAs and microcontroller programming, user interface development, and interfacing the components to user software such as Micro-Manager.
- Responsible for characterizing the performance of signal processing electronics and troubleshooting existing instrument control and automation systems
- Development of hardware and software (e.g. Python, C++) solutions for microscope control and automation.
- Solve technical problems related to computer control of microscope hardware and imaging automation
- Digital and/or analog electronic design of embedded systems.
- Component and/or systemlevel electronic design and testing.
- Printed circuit board development, assembly (when possible), and testing.
- Assist in analysis, review, and evaluation of design alternatives.
- Develop customized code for embedded microcontrollers and peripherals.
- Implement and troubleshoot these hardware and software solutions and ensuring their continual functionality
- Troubleshooting issues related to communication between microscope hardware and software in existing systems (including commercial systems).
Job Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of 10 years' relevant experience is required.
- Knowledge of programming and scripting are essential for the position.
- Experience with instrument control and automation in laboratory or industrial settings is highly preferable.
- Good working knowledge with FPGAs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, and mixedsignal designs is essential
- Expert in programming languages such as C++, Python, VHDL, Verilog, Assembly.
- Experience in scientific experiment automation or industrial automation is strongly preferred
- Strong technical skills including high speed signal propagation, power delivery, protocols (I2C, CAN, SPI, etc.), USB, thermal analysis, ESD, EMI.
- Familiar with PCB layout design, best practices and debugging using standard EE lab equipment: SMD Soldering, DMM, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer.
