Coating Superintendent

Roles & Responsibilities

Airswift is looking for a Coating Superintendent for our client in the oil and gas industry. The main responsibility of Coating Superintendent is responsible for leading a team of coatings inspectors and for confirming that the coating and material protection arrangements of the ships under construction are in accordance with the shipbuilding contract and approved plans. The role reports to the Senior Project Manager and is the focal point for all the coating and material protection aspects of the ships for the shipyard construction personnel.

Requirements:

1. Manage the coating and material protection inspection demand on the site team by coordinating the activities of a team of coating inspectors.
2. Confirm the competency of the team of coating inspectors and ensure that they have all equipment and information available to them in order to perform their work.
3. Take part in coating and material protection inspections and witness testing and be fully aware of the status of all ships under construction in terms of their compliance with the contract and approved plans.
4. To report regularly, formally and informally, to the Hull Superintendent any deviations from the contract or approved plans and to report any issues that may affect the delivery or finished standard, including certification of the ships.
5. To be the main point of contact for coating and material protection issues related to the construction of the vessels and liaise with representatives of appropriate shipyard departments to discuss problems and recommend remedial action where standards are in question or where defects have been identified.
6. Take part in Sea Trials.
7. On delivery of a ship, formally confirm to the Project Management that the ship is in compliance or otherwise with the requirements of the contract and approved plans.
8. Maintain clear and comprehensive records of all tests and inspections on a centralized database in accordance with the project document management procedures.
9. Develop and maintain a relationship of cooperation and mutual respect with the Shipyard representatives.
10. To conduct an effective Management of the Change process including comprehensive handover notes to ensure continuity and full visibility of role prior to any period of leave or extended period of absence from the Site Team.
11. To performance manage direct reports as directed by the Project Management.
12. To work safely and to be intolerant of unsafe acts or conditions. To promote good HSSE behaviors and to stop and report any unsafe acts. To liaise with the HSSE Superintendent / Inspector and report any unsafe conditions.
13. To review and approve shipyard plans and drawings as required by the Engineering Standards Manager
14. To comply with the Company Code of Conduct.

Essential:

• FROSIO or NACE certified.
• 10 years of Coating experience as a shipyard production area supervisor, a coating maker's new build field surveyor or a fleet support coating engineer for an oil tanker operator.
• Understand the importance of quality management as it applies to new ship construction.
• Membership of a professional body e.g. FROSIO, NACE, RINA, SNAME
• Readily available for assignment to Singapore.
