Duties:
The Assistant Nurse Manager duties will include but are not limited to:
- Direct and supervise the RCI nursing staffing as designated by the Nurse Manager.
- Act as the Nurse Manager during time of Nurse Manager absences.
- Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work.
- Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates.
- Evaluate the performance of subordinates as delegated by the Nurse Manager.
- Make recommendations to the Nurse Manager for appointments, advancements, or reassignments of subordinates.
- Give advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters (such as performance and conduct issues).
- Hear and resolve complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors.
- Recommend and/or take disciplinary action where appropriate.
- Follow the hiring and selection process for new employees in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
- Identify developmental and training needs of subordinates and services and providing or making provision for such development and training.
- Identify and implement performance improvement based on performance/quality measures.
- Maintain patient and employee safety, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Actively develop and manage collaborative partnerships with other departments, both internal and external to the VA.
- Assist with JPSR / PATS-R issues; assist in resolving consult issues.
- Work with data analyst to pull Data / Metrics for services. Update or write SOPs as needed.
- Attend National meetings for RCI and disseminate critical information to staff.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to ensure the RCI unit is staffed appropriately, validating the workload, and using national staffing tools as a guide for staffing.
- Ensure that suspense's and reports are completed timely along with proficiencies and performance appraisals as delegated by the Nurse Manager.
- Participate on service level committees and task forces to improve nursing practice and patient care. Support shared governance and encourages employees to participate in facility councils.
- Maintain a partnership with the union and adhering to EEO principles.
- Provide coverage for consult management teams as directed by the Nurse Manager
- Other duties as assigned.
Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards

Basic Requirements:

English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE);
OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed course
