An opportunity to join our expanding in-house legal team in Singapore

IN SHORT**SEFE Marketing & Trading, a leading energy trading company, has a rare and tremendously exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join its fast paced and expanding in-house legal team. Based in Singapore the successful applicant will focus on the Gas and Power market. In this role you will partner with our front office trading teams to give expert and commercially focussed legal advice, and negotiate and draft standard and bespoke agreements to develop and protect our business.


You will have significant experience in commodity trading and will be joining an extremely high performing team who play a key part in the success of the business.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Negotiate and draft gas and power trading agreements, transportation and storage agreements, transactions under framework agreements (EFETs and ISDAs, etc), and power purchase and emissions agreements
  • Advise on contentious gas and power matters
  • Provide legal support to set up new trading locations
  • Review and agree term sheets, and precontractual and bid documentation
  • Monitor and remain ahead of changes in applicable laws and regulations impacting the gas and power trading business
  • Advise on a range of regulatory issues from a legal perspective
  • Work closely with front office, other support functions and colleagues across the Legal team, offering support to junior legal colleagues where appropriate
  • Instruct and liaise with external counsel

WHAT YOU WILL BRING


As an experienced solicitor, qualified in the UK or a commonwealth jurisdiction you will have a working knowledge of the law relating to gas and power trading combined with an exceptional understanding of legal issues arising under trading contracts, secured through private practice or within the energy sector.

You will also demonstrate

  • Strong business acumen coupled with entrepreneurial flair
  • Concern for accuracy combined with a detailoriented approach
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to adapt your style to achieve commercial aims
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
