The Design & Innovation Director fills an important role in the design team to help deliver effective design solutions that will create business advantage for our clients.


The Design & Innovation Director will help develop and understand innovative design strategy to deliver the best possible creative solution within consideration of the client scope and budget.


Overall responsibility for:

  • Leading the translation of briefs and the development of innovative creative concepts.
  • Development of creative solutions to the highest design standards.
  • Supporting the Design team in managing the creative team and agreeing resources for the studio and studio environment.
  • Contributing to the overall creative development of the company and the DIA brand, to enhance its reputation with clients and in the design industry.

Essential Duties:

  • Creativity and Design _
  • Provide leadership for designers by managing project assignments.
  • Senior level direct contact with clients on briefing and presentation of creative brand development projects.
  • Lead creative teams towards innovative creative solutions
  • Responsible for overall creative excellence, including problem solving, creative strategy, quality of creative craft, innovation within creative team, and impact of creative product.
  • Responsible for the leadership and direction of the creative process of assigned projects, from initial client background briefing to implementation
  • Take the lead in generating and developing others to generate 'big ideas' that lead to innovative and exciting brandled business transformation for the client.
  • Conduct conceptual exploration, including drawing, sketching, research and thumbnails.
  • Oversee the creative process on all projects from commencement to completion.
  • Collaborate with the creative team to develop the collective inspiration for the company and to ensure we are in touch with the latest global design and cultural trends and influences.
  • Responsible for projecting DIA's image as a creative centre of excellence in the marketplace.
  • Establish directions and design solutions; ensure implementation of directions from concept through production.
  • Able to put forward a point of view not just on their own work but the work of others.
  • Proficiency in all creative software.
  • Leads projects for a client engagement of appropriate size and scope or on the specialised needs of a client project across areas of expertise.
  • Proven ability to be handle multiple projects/tasks at one time.
  • Able to evaluate and contribute to developing competitive design strategies.
  • Has developed a sophisticated understanding of design.
  • Presents innovative design solutions to the client.
  • Constantly challenge the status quo and ask What if?
  • Administration _
  • Attend regular studio meetings to agree weekly objectives and work allocation.
  • Coordinate projects with outside resources to facilitate production of deliverables.
  • Ensure all correspondence, materials, presentations, proposals, etc., seen by prospective and existing clients are errorfree, of highest quality and always relevant to the client's issues.
  • Partner effectively with all departments to ensure delivery of ontime, highquality deliverables that address all relevant prospective clients requirements.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations in a clear and compelling manner in written, oral and presentation forms.
  • Ensure backup and archiving of projects.
  • Share and import best practices and resources with peers within the DIA Group.
  • Interact in a positive, professional and motivating manner.

  • Develop and champion intellectual capital within and across offices.
  • Deliver presentations of innovative creative knowledge and expertise to the internal community and within the external marketplace.

  • Supports Design Team in staff development.
  • Provide desired development plan to Managing Director on an ongoing basis.
  • Foster a sense of community within the creative staff.

  • Commercial Awareness _
  • Drives for results by monitoring creative studio utilization and ensuring profitability on assigned projects through team adherence to established budgets and schedules.
  • Partners with the internal teams to maintain high utilization.

  • Recommendations on creative team makeup.
  • Leads project planning and organization.
  • Delegates tasks in organised manner.
  • Monitors timeline and deadlines.
