Summary

As an Associate Patent Examiner in the ICT sector, your role is crucial in assisting enterprises in their innovation journey by ensuring the issuance of high-quality patents.

Role Overview

In this position, you will utilize your scientific and technical expertise to navigate the complexities of patent law. Your primary responsibility will involve evaluating the novelty of inventions and determining their eligibility for patent approval in Singapore.

Key Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Analyze patent applications to identify technical concepts
  • Conduct in-depth searches using specialized databases to assess the novelty of inventions
  • Perform substantive examinations to verify compliance with patentability criteria
  • Communicate examination outcomes to applicants through written opinions
  • Engage with applicants to clarify positions and advance prosecution

General Responsibilities

  • Interpret patent law and apply examination guidelines
  • Evaluate patent applications within your technical expertise
  • Develop search strategies to uncover relevant prior art
  • Articulate technical and legal arguments effectively
  • Provide technical expertise across various technological domains
  • Stay updated on technological advancements

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in science or engineering
  • Excellent analytical and reasoning abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Driven, curious, and willing to learn new skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player

Desirable Qualifications

  • Minimum Honours degree in Science or Engineering
  • Knowledge in wireless communication or audio/video coding standards
  • Experience in patent prosecution or relevant certifications
