Responsibilities

  • Be an integral member of the Elementary PE Team
  • Become familiar with the PYP Scope and Sequence document and the Australian National Curriculum requirements for PE
  • Adapt programmes to the specific needs of students in their classes
  • Motivate students to perform to the best of their ability
  • Develop and/or amend programmes to meet changing needs and resources
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and collaborative planning when required
  • Actively seek and participate in professional development opportunities
  • Understand and demonstrate excellent formative assessment, feedback and marking to further each child's growth

AIS Elementary PE Teacher applicant should demonstrate the ability to:

  • Set appropriate PE tasks and activities i.e. matching required outcomes
  • differentiation
  • Regularly check student work and provide feedback to parents and students
  • Keep up with new technologies and encourage the use of appropriate technologies in PE classes
  • Set assessment tasks which assess student achievement outcomes (formative and summative) and respond to the needs of students
  • Maintain excellent records of student achievements for assessment
  • Maintain excellent communications with students and parents
  • Complete student reports and online learning journals diligently
  • Care for school resources and act promptly and effectively upon cases of undue damage
  • Regularly reward students for good achievement (e.g. merit certificates)
  • Contribute to the Schools extensive Co-Curricular Activities and representative sports programme
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through attendance at staff and community events including sports fixtures
  • Other duties as determined in consultation with the PE Coordinator and Head of Elementary.
  • Contribute to the School's Co-Curricular Activities programme as per guidelines.

Relationships with Students, Staff and Parents

  • Ability to develop productive relationships with students which foster and develop positive behaviours for learning
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, parents and colleagues
  • Demonstrated capacity to work as a colearner and collaborator with students, colleagues, parents and the wider community
  • Ensure that the welfare approach towards all students is balanced and aligns with the school's policies and procedures

Key Relationships

  • Actively contribute to year group collaborative planning meetings
  • Liaises with parents, guardians and external parties, as required
**Other duties as determined in consultation with the Head of Elementary, Deputy Heads of Elementary or Assistant Heads of Elementary.

Qualifications

  • Exemplary teaching and learning skills which achieves an outstanding level of student learning in the area of PE.
  • Outstanding organisational and administrative skills that support effective and efficient management of data related to student performance and curriculum documentation relevant to the teaching of PE.
  • A strong commitment to the development of a professional learning community that is deeply embedded in the culture of the school
  • Demonstrated the capacity to work with teams and develop cooperative and constructive working relationships that promote quality teaching and learning practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, colleagues, parents and broader community.
  • Experience of working with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme or inquiry based curriculum would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience/capacity to fulfil the core responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to teach all aspects of PE is essential. Experience in the delivery of gymnastics and dance would be an advantage.
