About role

The incumbent shall involve in the research and development of various projects and innovations to product realization. Ensure product quality, safety protocols, processes and workflow are properly documented.

An innovative R&D Manager with strong food science experience to provide technical expertise, manage development and review of formulations for new products. Incumbent will collaborate with project teams to create new products from conceptualization to commercialization. Able to evolve and improve nutritional quality, flavour and texture of food products.

To be successful in this role, incumbent should manage, coach, interpret and apply scientific findings to food, know how to translate findings into innovative products, and understand how to translate business objectives into clear project goals.

He/she shall be actively involved in open innovations projects, research and development work and gauge performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance etc.

The role shall work closely with key senior personnel and management in understanding the needs of the company and meeting timelines in producing desired research results.

Responsibilities

  • Overall in-charge of alternative protein product development activities including formulation, process and flavour development.
  • Manage and lead the R&I food science department in new product development projects from conceptualization to launch.
  • Research and explore alternative manufacturing methods
  • Development and continuous improvement on testing methods for determining the sensory attributes, quality and properties of product.
  • Support production plant in the development of manufacturing options, scaling up, production trial, pre commercialization testing and process optimization.
  • Support production plant in ensuring food manufacturing processes conform with government, processing, consumer and industry standards
  • Drafting of research proposals, presentation slides and manage project deliverables
  • Conduct process reviews and process/product improvement by working and communicating with respective department peers, in identifying objectives, budget, requirements, plans and formulate options.
  • Design and develop document processes in various protocols from R&D to manufacturing.
  • Develop necessary documentation and reporting required by respective statutory boards/stakeholders
  • Ensure projects operations run smoothly by scheduling staff, ordering supplies, maintaining health and safety protocols, as well as training lab technical and quality/control analysis/technical experts in various aspects.
  • Ensure good laboratory practices, including sample preparation, handling and record keeping.
  • Provide expertise team management, development and retention programme to develop peers.
  • Investigating and setting standards for safety and quality.
  • Ensure compliance of internal regulation, health and safety rules
  • Other ad-hoc tasks / projects assigned by Senior Management/Board member

Requirements

  • A Masters or Ph.D degree in Chemistry, Food Science and Engineering, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, or any equivalent degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of research hands on working experience and managing a team of research personnel
  • Ability to manage the team at the same time simultaneously manage projects, seek innovative solutions, continuous improvement of product and process, and drive results to completion on schedule.
  • Ability to evaluate nutritional value, colour, flavour, taste and texture of food etc.
  • Design and conduct experiments, actively learn, and troubleshoot issues from bench to scale up.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work while multitasking.
  • Demonstrate motivation and a good work ethic under minimal supervision.
  • Must work effectively in team environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
