Responsibilities

Manage the Loss Prevention (LP) Department in Asia with projects, travel and day to day running of the regional Department, ensuring that resources are utilised effectively.

Prepare the annual LP department budget for the Asia Region for incorporation into Global LP budget.

Ensure Club and departmental service standards are fulfilled by providing the best possible service to Members, claims handlers, underwriting personnel and staff in other departments throughout the Club.

Create regular Loss Prevention Bulletins, Safety Alerts and news articles for posting on the Club’s website, producing and delivering loss prevention presentations on topical or best practice issues as required.

Prepare Managers’ Commentaries for the claim’s agendas prior to consideration by the Claims Committee.

Respond promptly to all queries including, but not limited to, the carriage of cargo, shipboard operations, technical issues, safety management, international regulations and related matters; monitoring regulatory and technical developments within the shipping industry.

Maintain a dialogue with prominent organisations.

Report information which may be of interest or value, or which may have an impact on claims; adhering strictly to Loss Prevention department procedures; dealing with urgent matters outside office hours as necessary.

Contribute towards the wider activities of the Loss Prevention department by working closely with in-house surveyors regarding loss prevention issues arising from condition survey reports, and standing in for in-house surveyors as necessary; meeting Members to discuss and fulfil their loss prevention needs; visiting vessels and meeting surveyors as required; taking part in management appraisals, risk assessment exercises and/or loss prevention seminars; carrying out desk-top risk assessments of prospective members and making appropriate recommendations to Underwriters thereafter; proposing ways to improve departmental and inter-departmental efficiency.

Maintain orderly records by ensuring that records are updated promptly and accurately; contact details of Members, brokers, surveying companies, experts and consultants are updated to reflect any changes; advice given to Members is recorded for future reference.


Qualifications and Experience

Over 25 years of experience in the maritime sector, encompassing senior onboard roles with specific exposure to bulk carriers, general cargo ships, and project cargo handling, as well as over a decade in shore-based positions specialising in marine surveying, cargo claims management, and loss prevention.

Skilled in leading regional loss prevention teams, with experience in supervising performance, conducting appraisals, and aligning regional strategies with global objectives.

Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate effective loss prevention initiatives.

Expertise in managing high-value and complex project cargoes, conducting warranty surveys for specialised shipments, and performing cargo stowage, securing, and risk assessments in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Strong track record of collaborating with key maritime stakeholders and contributing to industry thought leadership through publications and knowledge-sharing efforts.

Accomplished speaker able to deliver impactful presentations on loss prevention topics and producing detailed, audience-specific publications.

Extensive hands-on experience conducting vessel inspections, condition surveys, risk assessments, and safety audits to ensure regulatory compliance and operational safety.

In-depth knowledge of shipboard operations, cargo handling, and stowage acquired through both onboard and shoreside roles.

Requirement for frequent business travel across the regional offices. Experience working in a global organisation.
