Job Summary

The Data Centre Operator (DC OP) & Application Helpdesk Support is responsible for managing data centre operations, infrastructure monitoring, physical security, and Level 1 helpdesk support. The role involves 24/7 monitoring of power, cooling, and security systems, managing DC facilities, supporting scheduled maintenance, and handling application support requests.

Minimum Requirements
  • Experience:At least 1 year of experience in Data Centre Engineer Operations.
    At least 3 years of experience in Application Helpdesk Support.
  • Certification (Mandatory):Certification in Data Centre Facilities Operations or equivalent.
  • Technical Expertise:Familiarity with data centre infrastructure monitoring (power, cooling, fire suppression, security systems).
    Experience in handling IT helpdesk support for enterprise applications.
    Basic knowledge of networking, job scheduling, and IT security best practices.
Key Responsibilities1. Data Centre Environment Support
  • Monitor data centre infrastructure 24/7, including:Power systems (UPS, power distribution boards).
    Cooling systems (CRAC, air-conditioning units).
    Fire suppression (FM200, water sprinklers, extinguishers).
    Environmental factors (humidity, temperature, water leakage detection).
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues.
  • Respond to alerts and anomalies within SLA-defined response times.
2. Data Centre Facilities Management
  • Conduct daily inspections to maintain the cleanliness and organization of the data centre.
  • Ensure network cabling is properly structured and labeled within racks.
  • Coordinate scheduled and ad-hoc maintenance activities with third-party vendors.
  • Obtain necessary approvals and notify stakeholders before any infrastructure maintenance.
  • Maintain physical security of the data centre, including:Monitoring CCTV, security alarms, and access control systems.
    Ensuring only authorized personnel access the DC.
    Escorting visitors and logging all access activities.
  • Keep up-to-date documentation of data centre layouts, infrastructure, and security procedures.
3. Application Helpdesk Support (Level 1)
  • Provide technical assistance to end-users via phone, email, or chat.
  • Log, track, and resolve Level 1 technical support issues; escalate unresolved issues to Level 2 engineers.
  • Support job scheduling operations, including holding and releasing jobs in the Authority’s Job Scheduler system.
  • Run scripts provided by the Authority’s applications or infrastructure team.
  • Ensure timely issue resolution and compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Maintain detailed logs of support cases and resolutions.
Skills & Competencies
  • Technical Expertise:Knowledge of data centre infrastructure, cooling, power, and security systems.
    Experience with DC monitoring tools and IT service management (ITSM) tools.
    Familiarity with job scheduling systems and basic scripting.
    Basic understanding of networking, access control, and IT security policies.
  • Soft Skills:Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
    Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    Ability to work in rotational shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
